I had the pleasure recently of attending Gina Citoli’s Mama Earth cabaret. In a word, the experience was inspirational.

Gina’s one-woman show focuses on the environment and our responsibility to it, and is powerful, yet personable. Her easy style, great original rock/ballad songs, and simple set décor made for a very listenable, understandable message. It was as if Mother Earth herself spoke to us with a knowing, loving smile, telling us of her needs. I noticed several children in the audience who would raptly listen, laugh, and clap along with the music, independent of their parents. And the adults obviously found meaning in the message on different levels, as shown on their smiling faces during and after the performance. A few tears of joy (or resolution?) were also seen.

Gina moves effortlessly into the persona of Mama Earth (opening with a bluesy song with a very danceable beat) in the role of educator/narrator. She speaks freely, enlightening us with statistics about pollution & natural resources. She also tells stories pertaining to personal growth so that we may step up to our responsibility to Earth and she provides answers to the problems of waste. Her original songs are consistently pleasing to the ear and are delivered with her trademark powerfully melodic voice with well-produced pre-recorded music. All of this is woven seamlessly into a one-woman program of music, storytelling, and education that is truly memorable.

Gina Citoli’s Cabaret of Consciousness is a show that leaves you hopeful and thoughtful. I personally recommend this program for schools, churches, corporate events, theaters, concerts in the park, etc.; anywhere in which education about our home is welcomed.
